Before you build anything,
find out what’s already out there.

Describe your idea in plain English. Groundwork breaks it down, searches GitHub, and tells you what already exists, what you can reuse, and what’s actually yours to build.

Why Groundwork exists

I kept having ideas. And every time, I’d spend hours trying to figure out if someone had already built something like it — and never really got a clear answer.

I’m not a software engineer. I’m just someone who likes having ideas and trying to ship them. Every time I got excited about something new, I’d ask an LLM what already existed, then immediately wonder if the answer was outdated, incomplete, or just confidently wrong.

Then I’d open GitHub and feel completely lost. I didn’t know the right search terms, couldn’t tell a healthy repo from a dead one, and had no clear way to decide whether I should fork something, stitch a few tools together, or just build it myself.

That’s the gap Groundwork tries to close. You describe the thing you want to build, and it does the messy research step for you in a more systematic way: what exists, what looks trustworthy, and what still seems missing.

If you’ve ever had an idea, asked ChatGPT about it, and still felt unsure what was real, this is for you. Groundwork is not here to talk you out of building. It’s here to help you start with better footing and waste less time on research.

What usually happens

You ask an LLM, open ten tabs, skim GitHub for an hour, and still are not sure what is actually reusable versus what only sounds promising.

What Groundwork does

It turns that fuzzy research phase into something concrete: describe the idea, see what exists, and get a clearer read on what to use, what to combine, and what to build.

The point

You should still build the thing. Groundwork just helps you spend less time reinventing foundations and more time on the parts that are actually yours.

How it works

Here’s what happens when you paste your idea in

01Describe it

Tell Groundwork what you want to build

Write your idea the way you would explain it to another person. You do not need to know the right technical terms or how to search GitHub properly.

02Check what exists

Groundwork searches GitHub so you don't have to

It breaks your idea into parts behind the scenes, runs focused searches, and surfaces relevant open-source projects instead of leaving you with a blank search box.

03Separate signal from noise

See what looks reusable and what still looks missing

Groundwork helps you spot which repos look active and worth building on, and which parts of your idea do not seem well covered yet.

04Start smarter

Get a practical starting plan

Instead of a pile of links, you get guidance on what to use, what to combine, what to build yourself, and how feasible the idea looks overall.

The output

A quick read on whether your idea is already solved, mostly reusable, or still yours to build.

These scores are there to help you make a faster decision: how original the idea looks, how much open source can carry the build, and how realistic it is to ship quickly.

Builder, not engineer — shipping things anyway

I build products, explore ideas, and constantly ship things that are slightly above my technical comfort zone. Groundwork is one of them — built out of frustration, shipped out of stubbornness.
